DescriptionThe protein encoded by this gene belongs to the BCL2protein family. BCL2 family members form hetero- or homodimers andact as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators that are involved in awide variety of cellular activities. This protein forms aheterodimer with BCL2, and functions as an apoptotic activator.This protein is reported to interact with, and increase the openingof, the mitochondrial voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC), whichleads to the loss in membrane potential and the release ofcytochrome c. The expression of this gene is regulated by the tumorsuppressor P53 and has been shown to be involved in P53-mediatedapoptosis. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants,which encode different isoforms, have been reported for this gene.Application NotesTitration of the anti-Bax antibody may be required due to differences in protocols and secondary/substrate sensitivity.ImmunogenA portion of amino acids 69-98 from the human protein was used as the immunogen for this anti-Bax antibody.StorageAliquot the anti-Bax antibody and store frozen at -20oC or colder.Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
