Puromycinisanaminonucleosideantibioticthatcausesearlychainterminationwithintheribosomeduringtranslation.Thisinhibitionoftranslationiseffectiveinboth invivo and invitro applications,makingitanidealtoolforproteinsynthesisstudies.Whileselectionfor E.Coli cellsispossIBLewithpuromycin,itismorecommonlyandeffectivelyusedformammaliancellselection.Itisactiveagainstgram-positivemicroorganisms,lessactiveagainstacid-fastbacilliandmoreweaklyactiveagainstgram-negativemicroorganisms.
