PuromycinDihydrochloride isthehydrochloridesaltformof puromycin,anaminoglycosideantibioticisolatedfromthebacteriumStreptomycesalboniger.Actingasananalogofthe3"terminalendofaminoacyl-tRNA, puromycin incorporatesitselfintoagrowingpolypeptidechainandcausesitsprematuretermination,therebyinhibitingproteinsynthesis.Thisagenthasantimicrobial,antitrypanosomal,andantineoplasticproperties. Puromycin"smainapplicationisincellBIOLOGyasaselectiveantibioticagentincellculturesystems forselectingmammaliancelllines,whichhavebeentransformedbyvectorsthatexpresspuromycin-N-acetyl-transferase(PAC).
