Description
7-Triethylsilyl-baccatinIIIisasyntheticintermediateinthesynthesisoftaxol.BaccatinhastrADItionallybeenassumedtobedevoidofactivity,althoughmanystudieshaveindicatedthatbaccatinexhibitsanticancerandimmunomodulatoryactivities.Baccatindecreasesthemitochondrialmembranepotentialandinducescaspase10-dependentapoptosisinavarietyofcancercelllines,resultingininhibitionofcellproliferation.Baccatinalsoincreasestubulinassemblyandinhibitstubulindisassembly,alteringmicrotubulepolymerization.Additionally,thiscompoundincreasespresentationofantigenonMHCIandIIreceptorsondendriticcellsinvitroandinvivo.
